There is a time for everything. Ecclesiastes 3:1 "There is an occasion for everything and a time for every activity under heaven."
For the men, Wednesday nights at New Beginnings Baptist Church in Bixby, OK has become a time for learning, a time for reflection, a time for self-evaluation, a time for a change in direction, a time for making a commitment, a time for fellowship, a time to not have to be alone and for the next 8 weeks, a time to learn about RISK.
For some men, (I'm not talking to all men) Wednesday nights is a time to relax, a time to watch TV, a time to be alone, a time to be selfish, a time to run away from problems, a time to hide, a time to: you fill in the blank.
I was talking last night to one man who has been attending pretty regularly on Wednesday nights and he confessed that he never wanted to come to church on Wednesday nights. He had all kinds of excuses. He enjoyed "his" alone time, while "his" wife took their children to church. He enjoyed the TV to "himself" to watch "his" sports. But then he also watched as "his" wife began to become the spiritual leader in their home. He began to be disturbed by the direction and culture of the world. So he decided to start coming on Wednesday nights with his family. He began to learn from other men. He began to see the importance of being the spiritual leader in his home.He got involved in serving in ministry. He can see the importance of being a spiritual guide for his children. And He sees the absence of men who should be coming on Wed nights that were just like him.
I also spoke with a woman who was attending on Wednesday nights and she told me that the reason she comes to this church on Wednesday nights is because of the men in this church. She used to attend another church and she "sees" the difference in the men at New Beginnings. She "sees" how involved they are with their families and she wants her sons to "see" the men in our church so they can learn what Godly men are supposed to be like.
This blog is not an indictment on those men and women who are not able to come on Wednesday nights, nor is this a legalistic argument for you to become a "better Christian" by your attendance on Wednesday nights. There are many men at New Beginnings who are involved in serving in other ministries on Wednesday nights, or involved in another study at another time of day and week and are able to achieve similar results in learning, fellowship, change, growth, etc.
However, if you are one of those men, who are not involved in any of the above, maybe it's "time". It's time for you to make a change, a time to take a RISK. A time to not be alone any longer. A time to engage and interact with other Christian men. It's time. Wednesday nights, 6:30pm we meet in the Worship Center. We are done by 8pm. Now you know the time. You will meet other men, not unlike you. They had to start some "time". It's time to start. It's time to make a change. It's time to make a difference.
